 On June 16, 2014 the Federal Trade Commission ("FTC") reached a Decision And Order with American Apparel, Inc. ("American Apparel") over allegations they violated the FTC Act by falsely claiming to participate in the international privacy frameworks known as the U.S.-EU Safe Harbor and the U.S.-Swiss Safe Harbor.  



Under the Settlement, American Apparel is prohibited from misrepresenting the extent to which they participate in any privacy or data security program sponsored by the government or any other self-regulatory or standard-setting organization. This Order will terminate on June 16, 2034 or twenty years from the most recent date that the United States or the FTC files a complaint in federal court alleging any violation of the Order.
