This company advertises a work at home opportunity as a HUD refund tracer in the help wanted section of newspapers. The company is not hiring anyone, but instead are selling information on locating people due refunds on HUD loans. Complaints against similar offers generally allege misrepresentation of offered services. Specifically, after the initial fee is sent companies request additional money to put the program into effect, or to purchasse lists of names which you write to obtain their permission to pursue a refund on their behalf. Few if any mailings disclose that tracers are required to register with HUD for additional fees. The most recent lists of people to trace are also available direct from HUD for a fee. We suggest calling your local HUD/FHA office to request details and fees associated with becoming a tracer. In March 1995, we challenged this company to substantiate its advertising claim that tracers earn $900 per month. We have no record of a reply.
