BCA's Summary and Analysis:
One complaintant alleges she responded to an on line job ad, and agreed to purchase a certification kit, however, the company charged her twice for the same kit causing overdraft fees on her account. The company responded the complaint be agreeing to refund the second unauthorized charge, and to refund overdraft fees. The complainant disputed that she had actually received the overdraft fees. This company advertises on Craigslist or other internet job sites for "Bartenders, No experience necessary." Those who respond to the ad are immediately solicited by a phone representative to purchase a bartender certification kit for $98.99.We urge caution. Certificates are issued by traditional bartending schools after you graduate their programs. Some companies may try and make you believe that you cannot be employed without them. That is far from the truth. Some businesses may require credentials which include a certification, others do not. The proof is in the fact that the majority of bartenders in the industry are either self employed or establishment trained working without bartending schools' certificates. Some hiring managers never ask about certificates, instead, they may ask direct questions about bartending and drink recipes. Watch out for ads promising Job Placement Programs along with the products or services sold to help find you a job. In some cases, we have found that Job Placement Programs consist of the company handing you a sheet of paper with the names and addresses of different bars in your area, with instructions to go there and apply. Anybody can get the same list by searching the yellow pages on the Internet. Read and understand exactly what they are offering before you sign up or agree to give your credit card number over the phone to an unknown company.
We know of no other matter or practice relating to this company that may assist you in your consideration of this company.
