These guidelines are in place to protect consumers against exposure to contagious diseases. They stipulate that the facility in which the piercing occurs must be kept clean and sanitary at all times. Piercing professionals must properly dispose of materials used in the piercing process and effectively sanitize those items that are used repeatedly.~~
