BCA's Summary and Analysis:

We have received no complaints against this company.

Complainants generally allege they have received phone calls from persons claiming to work for a debt collection agency using the names Capital Risk Services Davis Law Group Sagamore Debt Collection and possibly others to mislead consumers into providing personal and financial information to pay old debts or non-existant debts. Some complaints allege callers misrepresent themselves as legal authorities or having affiliation with the government to demand payment or making references to violations of the law. These scammers use high pressure scare tactics and false and deceptive methods to obtain credit card or bank account information from unsuspecting consumers stating this information is required in order to pay off the debt. Some complainants allege when they asked the caller for clarification of the debt written documentation of the debt or information on where the caller is located the caller becomes aggressive or uses abusive language fails to provide this information and/or hangs up.

Comments and Analysis

Business Consumer Alliance urges caution!  Never give your bank account credit card numbers or other personal information to unidentified callers for any reason.  If you are contacted by a debt collector about an unfamiliar debt don't allow the collector to intimidate you into paying a debt you do not owe.  The Fair Debt Collection Practices Act FDCPA gives you the right to verify debts from debt collectors. Ask the caller for his/her name company street address and telephone number and let them know you will contact them back after you have verified their information.  If the caller refuses to provide this information DO NOT provide them with payment or your personal information. You can send a letter requesting the collector validate your debt. This validation needs to include some documents from the original creditor proving you owe the debt  the amount you owe is valid  and the agency is allowed to collect the debt from you. Your request for validation must be made in writing and should be sent via certified mail with return receipt requested. The debt collector is responsible for sending you a debt validation notice within five days and include the amount to the debt the name of the creditor what you must do to dispute the debt how to contact the creditor and that unless you dispute the validity of the debt or some part of it within 30 days after you receive the notice they will assume it is valid. You can contact the creditor listed in the notice to verify your debt. If they are unable to present the requested documentation you are not required to pay the debt.
