C172 Engine rebuild

The hours were up, and it was time to take our aircraft (C172S) for an engine rebuild. First one ever and it was a frightening proposition. We contacted Ben and he was wonderful. He first spent time with us discussing the rebuild, what components we wanted rebuilt, what we wanted new, what absolutely had to be new per the FAA, etc. After the end of our conversation, he provided us with detailed written estimates for various options. He kept in contact with us regarding availability of parts and progress. He let us ‘visit’ our engine while it was in pieces, so we could get a good idea about areas of wear. Ben and his guys clearly have an eye for detail and pride in their work. Discussing wear patterns on the bearings, reading surface markings on the cases, Micrometer and magnifux on the rods and crank, even evaluation of the previous valve and cam wear were indications of his knowledge and expertise. When new components were ordered he definitely had good advice regarding rebuild vs new (new mags every time). We also would HIGHLY recommend flying the plane to him and having his guys do the pull and replace. We can’t say enough about the attention to detail. Replacing the new motor mounts and cleaning up the hoses (worm clamps on all) and custom air baffles were an extra that really makes for a cherry job. We can’t say enough things about our experience at Corona Engines. If we can give more than 5 stars, we would!
