BCA's Summary and Analysis:

Complainants allege after paying advance fees between $1000 and $3000 for credit repair services, the company failed to remove negative entries, change the status of entries, implement corrections, or otherwise improve their credit reports. Most complainants also report difficulty contacting the company regarding case status; calls are not returned, and they are unable to speak with anyone authorized to review case status. One complainant alleges the company asked her to illegally switch 4 digits in her social security number to clear her credit. The complainant refused. Most complainants request refunds. The company responds to some complaints by advising clients they signed a 12 month contract, and the 12 month period had not expired. In some cases, the company implied the client had provided false information which voided the contract. In a few cases, the company promised to refund, or issue a partial refund, however, clients dispute they ever received anything from the company. The company provided no proof of refund to the BBB.

Comments and Analysis

We urge careful consideration of this company's offer. By law, accurate information stays on your credit report for seven to ten years. Accurate negative information can only be removed by with cooperation of your creditors, and this usually involves paying all or some of the debt. In some cases, while in dispute, the credit bureaumay remove negative items from your credit file, but in the event that those items are verified as valid by the credit bureau they will be reinstated on your credit file. Any company offering to assist you in modifying, correcting, or improving your credit report may not take money in advance before performing services, for any reason, even as a deposit. Also, the services must be performed within 6 months of the contract date and the contract must contain a five day cancellation clause as required by law. The contract must also include a detailed list of the specific services to be performed. As of our last verification on October 14, 2004, this company has not registered nor posted a bond as required by the California Credit Services Act. The Act requires companies advertising credit repair services to register with the Attorney General and post a $100,000 bond. Even if registered, the Act prohibits the practice of collecting payment before providing services. To verify registration and bonding information contact the Attorney General's office by calling, (916) 322-3360.
