I received a cashiers check for $2850.00 to purchase 2500.00 in AMEX cards

I believe this to be some type of scam. I received a cashiers check for $2850.00 to purchase 2500.00 in AMEX cards to see how I would be handled as a customer. Then report details, and information back to Ardent Service Inc Survey Program. I don't think this legitimate. I just want them to investigate this. I did not deposit the check. I shredded everything.
