Comments and Analysis

The company's literature, offering residential lots in Salton City for $5,995, alludes to a major development approved to the north of the city and states, among other things, utilities are available at the property lines and hook up fees for sewers are moderate. We are aware that the Salton City area is remote desert area. The City Community Services advised us that lots sell for as low as $2,500. Water and sewer hook up costs $650 plus $1,100 for a water meter. Since electricity is brought in from the nearest pole, it can be quite costly. According to the Planning Commission, the only known approved development plan is Habitat 2000, which was approved some time ago, never developed and with no plans to develop. We urge caution. Before making a commitment, have property independently appraised. Thoroughly investigate all costs necessary to actually take up residence. Check out travel distances for shopping, schools, medical care, entertainment, and everyday services and determine if you are willing to undertake the inconvenience.
