The company sends out a mailing stating that the recipient has been approved for a platinum credit card. Most people believe this is a Visa or Mastercard. The offer requires the payment of a fee of $39.00 in order to receive the card. Complainants state that the card they receive can only be used to purchase goods from the company's catalog. The platinum card is not a Visa or Mastercard, and cannot be used anywhere else. The catalog contains various products including computers, TV's, stereos, dishes, watches, tools, exercise equipment and small appliances. The company states the terms and conditions listed on the back of the initial pre-approval letter clearly states that they are not affiliated with Visa, Mastercard, American Express or any other credit card. Any third party advertising the availability of credit cards is required by law to register with the California Attorney General and post a $100,000 bond. Even if registered and bonded, it is unlawful to collect fees before services are performed.
