This company, Medical Excess LLC (“Medical Excess”), claims to be a majority owned subsidiary of American International Group, Inc. (“AIG”), one of the world’s largest insurance organizations. AIG is traded on the New York Stock Exchange (symbol AIG). The company has reportedly sent advisories to clients that one of their facilities had been burgularized, and that personal information retained in stolen computers could put clients at risk for identity theft crimes. The company has reportedly set up a call center with a toll free number to provide counseling free of charge to anyone who might be victimized. The number is 877-223-4448, and it will be available for 12 months. Clients are invited to call even if there is no identity theft. Counselors are available to discuss the situation, and can send a useful packet of advice on how to prevent becoming a victim of identity theft and how to deal with it if it does occur. Those clients who actually do become a victim of identity theft, can call the toll free number and they will be assigned a case manager who will create a file, and provide assistance dealing with the problem until resolved, not just twelve months. The company believes the theft was aimed at the equipment, not the information stored on it.
We know of no other matter or practice relating to this company that may assist you in your consideration of this company.
