Comments and Analysis

We urge caution. In spite of any promises to the contrary, our experience indicates companies listed in books of work at home offers charge fees to get started. Complaints against the numerous work at home offers known to the Bureau allege misrepresentation of offers and failure to honor money back guarantees. Those against home assembly offers of any kind go on to allege work takes longer than indicated and difficulty obtaining pay because acceptance standards are difficult if not impossible to meet. While offers may vary somewhat, the vast majority end up with the same complaint history. In the case of envelope stuffing offers, respondants report receiving instructions for placing ads and stuffing envelopes with similar instructions. Participants risk investigations by Postal Authorities for fraud. Typically, the only one profiting from work at home offers is the company itself. Of the hundreds of work at home companies in our files, not one ever proved the earnings claims it made in its advertising or promotional literature.
