This school fraudulently took $3500, after withdrawal from school, from Sallie Mae/Navient. They were supposed to pay back over 10 years ago when I went on maternity leave. The documents have been requested multiple times. Attorney General said I could not be a part of the class lawsuit, since I live in Wisconsin. Resolution Sought I would like the business to reimburse me the $3500 they took and I have been paying on for years, I have paid over 16,000 to Navient on a loan that should have only been one payment of around $3500, but was billed that amount twice.

Company Response

Ms. Gassen previously raised the same concerns regarding her enrollment at AIU to the Better Business Bureau ("BBB") in December 2023 and we provided her with a formal response in January 2024. AIU has not changed its position to Ms. Gassen's concerns, and we advise she refer to the formal response she received from AIU to her BBB complaint on January 22, 2024. AIU cannot go into further detail due to Ms. Gassen's privacy rights under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). If Ms. Gassen would like AIU to share our January 22, 2024 BBB response with the Business Consumer Alliance, we could do so if she executes the attached FERPA release. If Ms. Gassen has any additional questions concerning her enrollment, she may reach out directly to AIU's Ombudsman's Office at [email protected]. Please let us know if anything additional is required so that we may respond accordingly. Thank you, Clantha Bates Director of Regulatory Operations

Customer Rebuttal

In 2013 you agreed to pay it back. I am looking for the documents regarding that. I do not have access as they were on my computer at work and I didn’t return after having a child. I have opened numerous bbb rebuttals, over years, in order to get these and have yet to receive them. I would also like the correspondence from my emails to prove I withdrew, but was locked out of my online school email when I filed the first time. This school is fraudulent and they are in the wrong and have been for many years. I just want what was agreed upon 10 years ago that still has not been taken care of. I’m only asking the reimburse for what was taken and not the thousands of interest I have paid over the years.

Company Final Response

American InterContinental University ("AIU"), a member of the American InterContinental University System, believes it provides quality programs for its students, and this is supported by our accreditation with the Higher Learning Commission. All information AIU has concerning Ms. Gassen's complaint has been provided to her in our responses to her prior complaints to various agencies. Again, AIU has not changed its recent position to Ms. Gassen's concerns and we advise that she refer to the formal response she received on January 22, 2024 from AIU to her BBB complaint. Without Ms. Gassen's formal authorization, AIU cannot provide further details about her enrollment to the Business Consumer Alliance due to her privacy rights under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
