House was already rented!!

I went and put an application in for a house and turned in my check stubs and supposedly they sent me a text message that I was approved and I did not receive it. I was the first applicant and no phone call and I was also told to call back this week and when I did they told me that house was already rented. I think they should have called me instead of sending me a text message that way I was able to pay my rent and deposit. Just note that this is not how they should do business.
