Customer Complaint

I was contacted by Basic Auto Sales and invited to their car lot to pick out any vehicles I would be interested in purchasing. I was approved for an auto loan online, and through some channel that information was provided to their staff. Upon arrival I was greeted and taken for a tour, I was asked what vehicles I might ne interested in, only one vehicle caught my eye. It was a black 2021 Dodge Charger, which I was allowed to view and test drive. Afterwards I was given a small list of items to produce in order to be considered for a loan. Now once I began to produce the items listed, I was then given more items. I was also told by Jeremy I could either do a down payment with a reasonable car note, or I could do no down payment, but the car note would be harder to manage. This was after he spoke with his supervisor, she gave him paperwork which he brought with him to a desk, where we sat down to speak in confidence. When I opted for no down payment, he then spoke with Betty again, and then I was told I would need a down payment of $1000 dollars. It took a minute to call a few people and scrambled up the funds, but the moment I did so, I was asked to produce more items proving residence, when those items were produced, I was then told the banks had closed for the day, and nothing could be done until Monday. This all took place on Saturday 08/20/2022 from around 11:30am til about 6:30pm. Staff involved: Betty, Jeremy, Jason Resolution Sought I would like some type of paperwork to be put together, that would serve as a benchmark on how to treat customers no matter their race, religion, or beliefs. I was the only black man there, so I was treated as such, the only other black person there was a woman who was married to a Middle Eastern man, so he was in fact the billfold. I was first to arrive, but when three Caucasian families and the couple previously mentioned showed up, I was then unable to garner attention from Ms. Betty.

Company Response

Company states: We, Basic Auto Sales, received a lead from one of our lead sources that specializes in sub prime finance. Our procedure is to contact all leads that we are provided and invite them to the dealership to look at the options for car ownership that may be present. Mr. Edmonson was approved to purchase a vehicle with certain conditions known as stips that have to be submitted with the approval and contract in order for the contract to fund. Mr. Edmonson was not able to provide the required documentation the bank was requesting in order to get funded for the car he wanted to purchase. This situation has nothing to do with race, religion, or beliefs. It is a computer-generated call back based on your credit history. The computer has no way of knowing any of these items that his complaint is about. We have not issue selling to Mr. Edmonson a vehicle if he can produce the items that the bank is requiring.
