This collection agency keeps sending a bill to my husband regarding a claim from 2021. I researched the date of service and found out through my insurance company they did not submit a claim within a timely fashion - 1 year. As a result, the claim was denied. I explained to the debt collector that it was the responsibility of the provider to submit a claim within a timely fashion. If my husband, us, had an out-of-pocket expense, then we will be responsible for it. I told them they could not charge us the full amount of service which would not even be considered the contracted amount based on our insurance. I told them that the provider messed up but for them to be coming after us for the total amount that they wanted to build us, because they messed up, was like extortion and I was going to file a complaint. I can't find my paperwork for the first time I spoke to the person from the debt collection office but I have it for this one and it's the exact same person. I remember because of their name - Sam Smith. Anyway I spoke to them today, January 12th, at 1:18 p.m. EST. I told him if I were old and didn't know better they would have extorted me out of this $1,300. I told him I'm not that old and I'm in no way stupid, and what they're doing is illegal. I told them, this is my second time speaking to him and just like the first time I asked her to stop billing me. I'm sure I'm not the first person they've done this to or are doing it too. This is a crime! Right? Resolution Sought I would like for them to be sanctioned and/or at least educated. They cannot bill people when the provider service did not at least go through the insurance carrier like they were supposed to initially. I also would like something sent out to people to make them aware of what they're doing. They could actually be ripping a lot of people off.
