Customer Complaint

(The amount of $4000 is estimated until I locate copies of my checks.) In September of 2020 we hired Bensalem Flooring 3618 Creamery Rd, Bensalem PA 19020 (215-245-0519) to remove carpeting in our living room, hall and 2 rooms and replace it vinyl floor. The area was 540 Sq. Ft. The cost for installation was $2090. We had already purchased the flooring for about $2000. On the day the installers, "Frank" and his helper arrived, they began tearing up the carpeting. Instead of tearing up all the carpeting and checking the flooring for any flaws, they simply laid the flooring down as they went. They almost immediately called me and said the flooring material we bought was "warped". He showed me a slat and although I couldn't see a difference, took his word that he could not fit the pieces together. Since then I've come to realize that the reason was probably more that the floor was uneven, but rather than point it out and explain that it needed to be fixed, he asked me to return the flooring and then offered me flooring from his own supplier. This process took another week to complete and $200 paid to return the material and wait for new. All the while living with a half-torn up carpet in our living room. Once the job was completed, on the day he left, we noticed a hump in the middle of the living room. We called them back 4 times to fix things. 2 still remain unfixed. We sent a letter of complaint with pictures 6/18/21 and have not heard back. Resolution Sought We are requesting a refund of the entire job in the amount of - roughly - $4000 (I have canceled checks with exact amount, I just need to locate from bank account.)

Company Response

Company states: Prior to starting the job, I advised the customer that her existing floor was in bad shape and that I would need to lay down some plywood first, but she said she didn't have the money to do that. So, I laid down the floor per her approval and now she's having issues. I provided a service per her approval. I have been there at least 5 times already. I told her I couldn't fix things that her son did in one of the bedrooms. Someone is trying to fix the floor without my knowledge and she is telling me to look at those things and expects me to repair them. She did not pay me to return the flooring. One of the sub-contractors returned flooring for her and she paid him directly. She already sent me a letter asking for $1200 because she doesn't like the way the job was done. Her job never cost $4000. I completed the job as agreed and no refund is due.

Customer Rebuttal

7/19/2021

One: I emphatically dispute that the installer "advised us that our existing floor was in bad shape and that the installer would need to lay down some plywood first." That assertion is an outright lie on his part. At NO TIME did he ever say anything of the kind. In fact, I am proven by the fact that he laid the flooring as he was tearing up the old carpet, so he never could have checked anything wrong with the flooring. That is proof that he is not telling the truth. Two: As to "someone trying to fix the floor without his knowledge" he must have us confused with someone else. Our son, nor anyone else has "done anything in one of the bedrooms". I sent him a picture of the main bedroom that my son installed several years ago. It was not one of the rooms the installer did. I sent the picture to demonstrate our son's workmanship compared to the installers. Three. The installer was here 3 times, which I have documented. The first time was to redo a broken piece under a heater vent that was visible. The second was a piece that sticks up (still does). The third time is a problem in front of the bathroom doorway. The problem remains and he has ignored my 4th call.
