On 1/11/24 I was contacted by Central Portfolio Control in regard to a $242 collection. I spoke with an agent that offered me a settlement of $145, I counter offered $95. I was transferred to a supervisor that agreed to a pay to delete and agreed to accept the $95 settlement. I made sure to ask the supervisor if this would satisfy the collection and be removed from my credit report as my balance would be $0 after the $95 payment. The supervisor agreed it would be removed from my credit and paying the $95 would take my balance to $0. I made the $95 payment online at 12:37 PM and was told I would receive a pay off letter within the next few days and I should see the account removed from my credit report within the next few weeks. As of 2/1/24 the collection is still on my credit report. Instead of removing the collection my amount owed is $95 less. I called Central Portfolio Control on 2/1/24 at 1:36 PM where I was told that although a supervisor agreed to remove this from my collections they cannot accept anything less than $145. I asked the representative "even though your company, on a recorded call, agreed to delete this from my credit report and bring the balance to $0 once the $95 is paid you're saying your company will not honor this agreement?" And the representative said he cannot accept this agreement. The agreement was already accepted. We made an agreement, which Central Portfolio Control is now not holding up their end of. Debt collectors are lying to clients. Resolution Sought I would like this company to hold up the agreement of deleting this collection from my credit report and satisfying my account to $0. We agreed that the $95 payment would result in both the deletion and the satisfaction of my account and neither has happened. This is fraud. The Fair Debt Collection Practices Act highlights debt collectors are not allowed to make false or misleading statements, which is what this company has done.
