Customer Complaint

In 2017, due to buzzing on our phone line, Altafiber sent a technician out. Unable to locate the source of the problem they decided to replace the copper line running from the street to our house. Our phone and electric lines were marked with flags and paint. While running the new line, they hit the electric line running from our home to our barn. They located the damage and spliced it. In November 2019, power to our barn went out due to the prior repair failing. Altafiber had the line repaired. In March 2023, we had a fiber optic line run to replace our copper line. Again, all buried utility lines were marked with flags and paint. I spoke to Altafiber and specifically said that last time we had a line buried that the electric to our barn was hit. I explained the same thing to two subcontractor employees 2 days before the scheduled date, who stopped at my house. When they buried the line they still hit our electric line running from our house to the barn. Luke Libbee, who is the subcontractor that buried the line for Altafiber located and confirmed his employees hit the electric line. His solution was to repair the damage. I spoke to three electricians, who said the same response: by repairing the electric line it is a temporary fix and the repairs will fail, it was just a matter of time. They would not be willing to warranty the work. The only fix they would recommend is to run a new electric line. Luke Libbee and Altafiber will only repair. Resolution Sought To only repair the damage would not only NOT make me whole, but i am now worse off due to having two damaged sections when both could stop working at any moment. In addition to not being made whole, my fear is that the next time the electric goes out, due to their repair failing, all expenses will be put on me when it could have been avoided by having a new electric line run. Altafiber should replace the line instead of doing a temporary patch repair.
