Customer Complaint

On 9/4/2020 I brought my antique kitchen clock to clock place. I received a call that my clock needed a "complete overhaul". In January I called regarding my clock and "David" was confused about the clock, it's status, and it's whereabouts. The clock was picked up and paid for, 300.68, on February 12, 2021.. Nine months later the clock wasn't working and I brought it back in mid December of 2021. They could not find my invoice from the work done, and I used my check to verify this. I was told my repair was a priority and would be moved to the front of the line for repairs. In June of 2022, I received a call from David, I was anticipating that the clock was done. Instead he asked what was wrong with the clock. I had to call twice asking the status of the clock and my desire to pick it up and David was curt and rude stating "I bet you wish we'd close our doors". This was unprovoked and I told him I wanted to pick up my clock. Upon picking up my clock on July 29,2022, David claimed the weight of the clock "fell through" the bottom of the clock, and that he had to do extensive work and gluing to repair it. He said he should "charge me at least 75.00, but won't. When I looked at him as he described the damages incurred to my family clock, he said to me "don't look that way! Life's too short!" He also stated the clock was "finicky" and that he felt it "wouldn't work" when I got it home. My clock does not work still after being at Clock Place for a total of 12 months. Resolution Sought I desire a refund for the 300.68 spent. My clock has damages incurred by clock Place (bottom of clock) busted, which I am not seeking damages on currently, but am considering small claims court if a resolution cannot be made. My clock does not work currently, after picking it up July 29, 2022. I am heartbroken that a family heirloom has been "overhauled" and has sustained physical damages while in Clock Place care. I would never take the clock back there again. I still need my clock repaired.

Company Response

In response to Mrs. Utesch I would like to explain what happened. We have had thousands of satisfied customer in the 25 years we have been open. We are now part time as customers beg us to stay open one day a week. Originally the clock came in and needed major repairs. our repairman found the movement in poor condition. if we could find a replacement motor for it we would have recommended it. we should have called the Uteschs and told them that their clock was unrepairable. Since we felt the clock was important to the family our technician continued working on the clock and got it to run. The Uteschs picked up the clock later brought it back as they were having problems with it. Once again we got it running and hung it up. One day we found the bottom had fallen from the clock. We discovered that the wire that held one of the weights had broken as it was no longer strong enough causing the weight to fall knocking the bottom from the clock. We spent a great deal of time gluing and clamping the bottom back in place so it would look as it did before. We put heaving hooks on the clock weights so they would not fall again. When Mr. Uteck picked up the clock he was told that the clock can be challenging and it would take the right touch to get it started but with a little understanding and effort if should run just as it was when he picked it up. Apparently the Uteschs are still having difficulty with this. we are sorry about this and would help them as they have two year warranty and we pride ourselves on satisfied customers.
