This is a very basic complaint. I dropped my 2016 GMC 3500 truck off for a computer update and replacement of glow plugs. The original estimate was 600.00. During the removal of the last glow plug, the technician broke it off in the engine. The plug was not defective I just wanted to swap them due to the engine having 106,000 miles. The service manager called me and informed me that the broken plug could not be removed and that special tools would be necessary and it would take some time. The manager got back to me explaining that it would cost approx 3000.00 to remove and replace the plug and that I was responsible for the charge. The plug was not defective and I never signed anything that stated if the dealership broke the plug, that I would be responsible for the additional charges. The fact is the technician broke it and needs to fix the issue he or she created. This should not be my responsibility to pay. They have had my truck for over a month, never apologized or offered a loaner car. My truck is the only vehicle I own other than a motorcycle. This isn't right. Resolution Sought I am willing to pay the 600.00 bill for the computer flash and glow plug replacement. I will not pay the additional 2500 for their mistake.

Mr. Geiger brought his 2016 GMC Sierra 3500 to our dealership for routine service and requested new glow plugs. Upon attempting to remove the glow plug on cylinder #8, it was discovered that the component was seized in the cylinder head. Multiple attempts were made to remove the glow plug. All attempts were unsuccessful. Mr. Geiger was contacted and informed of the part failure. He was presented with two options to correct the glow plug seizure. Both options were offered at a reduced parts and labor rate. Mr Geiger was assured if either option did not work, he would not be charged. Ultimately option #2 (complete cylinder head removal) was necessary to make the appropriate vehicle repairs. While the cylinder head was off, it became clear that cause of the glow plug seizure was due to excessive carbon build up inside the combustion chamber. Excessive carbon build up most always exists when a trucks emissions & fuel system has been modified. In the case of Mr. Geiger's vehicle, the EGR system & DEF system were both modified / bypassed. In addition, the vehicle has been tuned with an after-market programmer, further hampering the vehicles ability to property incinerate carbon in the cylinder.
