Complainants allege deceptive sales practices. Customers complain they receive unwanted solicitations to purchase toner cartridges, that misrepresentations are used to imply they are the regular supplier, and they receive shipments of unordered merchandise. Most complainants request to be removed from the company's customer list, and to cease any further contact or future delivery. The company generally responded to complaints by agreeing not to solicit in the future and issuing call tags to pick up merchandise. When solicited by telemarketers offering business supplies, we urge extreme caution. Insist the caller send a catalog or brochure containing the items in question, along with a price sheet. To minimize misunderstandings, designate one employee to whom all calls regarding office supplies must be directed. If unordered merchandise arrives, immediately write to advise the company of your intent to keep the shipment as a free gift unless pick up is arranged within a reasonable amount of time. Send your letter by certified mail to obtain proof of receipt.
