Customer Complaint

2/6/2026

Consumer alleges your company is not taking responsibility for the stain that did not match the other stain color previously purchased. Customer made a purchase of stain for a kitchen project he had for his client. The purchase was made on 10/23/2025. The job for his client is about 90% completed, however he was short on stain, and ordered one more quart. The work was done, however the color is the matching the existing work. He brought it to your attention and you assured him that the stain was the same one he had previously purchased. He had someone from your company go out and see for himself that the color does not match. He was given another stain to work as a glazing to try and match the color however that still did not work. Your company is blaming the wood to be the problem however this is the same wood he has been using. Customer is now having to buy additional wood to redo this job and still needs to get the right stain color to match the entire kitchen. It appears as if the fomula for this new stain changed. Customer wants to be reimbursed for the wood replacement ($2500), plus the labor work of about two weeks to get this job done. Resolution Sought Customer wants to be reimbursed for the wood replacement ($2500), plus the labor work of about two weeks to get this job done.

Company Response

2/9/2026

Devine Paint Center Inc. assumes no responsibility for any issues with incorrect color to the wood panels in question. The quarts of stain provided were all tinted using a computer operated tinting machine, all formulas and bases were exact. Looking at the history of dispensed formulas provided by the computer program, all formulas are confirmed to have been exact. Additionally, the last batch of stain purchased provided the proper color to some of the wood cabinets, yet different color appeared on panels that were to be used for appliances. The panels themselves appear to have different grain structured and to the knowledge of Devine Paint Center they were sanded and bleached in a different and inconsistent manner to the rest of the wood cabinets. Further, the glaze provided was to assist the applicator in fixing the incorrect color that occurred due to inconsistent wood, preparation, or application method. It was advised to test a small area or back of panel and not to stain and apply finish coat until color accuracy was confirmed. The labor spent by not following this advice was due to poor painting practice and not a responsibility of Devine Paint Center. Devine Paint Center Inc. assumes no responsibility for inconsistent color due to the fact that all stain provided by Devine Paint Center was the same formula, base and color.

Customer Rebuttal

Contractor disagrees with the response provided. If the stain was the correct one, like the previous one he had purchased, the color would be matching. Contractor feels that you should be responsible for redoing this work. He is willing to take in the panels and have your company complete the stain job since he is being accused of not knowing how to do it. The job has only a 10% left to complete, all the other work was done without an problem. The formula is done on the computer but someone has to put in the fomula and feels that could have been an error on your part. Contractor just wants some type of solution from your company to resolve this matter. New panels have been ordered and wants the staing provided to them again to complete the job.

Company Final Response

2/13/2026

Devine Paint Center Inc. assumes no responsibility for inconsistent color due to the fact that all stain provided by Devine Paint Center were the same formula, base and color. Devine Paint Center Inc. maintains its stance of no wrongdoing. The reason for inconsistent color would be due to wood prep, application, or variation in the wood itself. This is the opinion of Devine Paint Center based on experience, discussions with cabinet manufactures, finish shop applicators, and general contractors. I have provided the following 3 formulas to show the final quarts purchased. The initial quart was a custom match, so it wouldn't show the formula. The purchase of the stain in question was 12/20/2025.
