Customer Complaint

I was a customer of down East energy and I got a rate of 1.89$ Per gallon on propane. I was told it ranges from 1.8-2.60 a gallon. I have a 2nd property and have a100 g tank that need to be filled every 2 weeks. I had them fill it for the first time. They tried to charge me 5.99 per gallon. I refused to pay it. They said the next fill they will will compensate that previous fill. I got that bill and they want 4.99$ per gallon. They are price gouging and have been taken advantage of their customers. More importantly this takes place in the middle of winter when people need fuel to heat homes and stay warm. Other companies surrounding them I can list if needed, are charging 2.0-3.0$ per gallon. Again they raised this price without telling customers on purpose. I've called and asked for a manager and I had been hung up on. I just called today because they sent me a second bill with the same outrageous rates. Today I asked for a manager four separate times and the receptionist wouldn't patch me over wouldn't let me speak to a manager. I assume they are not doing this to just me so I felt the need to report it. A price hike is not out of the ordinary but a 200-400 increase is un herd of. I have the bills and payment info to prove it. this should be illegal. Resolution Sought They need to tell people about increases as well as they shouldn't be able to increase it more than 200 -400 in one month no one would be able to afford propane ever again if that was the case. They shouldn't deny any customers the right to talk to a manager let alone hang up on them or beat around the bush so I'm not able to talk to management. They more than likely are charging the elderly and low income families alike with these grossly inflated prices. In the winter months of maine.
