Was charged $1100 for a fuel pump replacement on a 2000 z71 stepside truck. Was told the truck would be lifted by a lift and the fuel tank would be dropped Was not the case the bed was cracked from being set on the ground. Was charged double what other shops quoted. Then come to find out Doys automotive did not perform a fuel pressure leak down test. As result a leaking injector was not noticed and now I need my 90k mile motor rebuilt. Cost unknown on damages due to poor mechanic practices. If you do a fuel rail pressure test then you should do a pressure leak down as well it is common practice to do so. The shop owner John Ward told me he did not perform a leak down test. John also will not honor the warranty that I was given in writing on my invoice of 18 month 18,000 miles. The fuel pump has begun to fail at 6,000 miles. Resolution Sought At minimum give me a full refund of the fuel pump invoice of $1100.00 but any mechanic knows to perform a leak down test after you service the whole fuel system as I was quoted. Gas tank dropped cleaned all lines blown out. Was told everything from fuel cell to injectors would be checked. Dudent even replace the fuel filter! I honestly belive that this shops poor mechanic practices has cost this motor more than half of its life/ mileage.

Company Response

Company states: We deny his claims regarding said repair. The vehicle in question was inherited by this customer after having been parked and not operated for three years. He had been working on the vehicle himself. He brought the truck to us because the could not get it running properly. (We have issued a copy to BCA of the original repair order #200356626 which shows the work performed together with cost.) As you can see, the truck had several problems that were addressed during the original repair. Prior to performing any work, the customer was called with a diagnosis and estimate of repairs. He approved the repairs as well as the cost. Subsequent to the initial repair, the customer had his truck towed back to the shop. He stated that he was afraid to drive the vehicle and claimed a bolt was missing from the bed. Please be advised that at no time during the repair was the bed of the truck ever removed from the chassis - it was only lifted/tilted to gain access to the fuel pump in as much as this is standard repair procedure. Additionally, the customer claims that we did not perform a "leak down test." Please reference repair order #200356730, Job #3 which shows that fuel pressure was checked and holds pressure (I.E.: Leak down test). With regard to his claim that we did not replace the fuel filter, the customer advised that he had just replaced this and it was determined this was unnecessary. Doy's Auto Repair stands behind its work and has a good reputation in the community, however, we cannot work with a customer who comes into our establishment and makes false accusations. We have advised the customer that he can take his truck to another shop and would work with that business to handle any warranties on THIS repair only. The customer became so belligerent with our staff and with Mr. Ward that it was necessary to contact the Kaufman County Sherriff's department to have him removed from the premises. We performed the requested and approved work in the manner prescribed by standard repair practices, absorbed the cost of paying our technicians and parts and do not feel any refund is warranted, nor will any refund be granted. Thank you for the opportunity to respond. We consider this matter closed.
