Customer Complaint

The site person, when asked to remove a stump, refused and got in my face and threatened to leave the job site delaying the process. Apparently she's a non replaceable entity and doesn't have to be held responsible for how she treats customers. The concrete crew, snapped off my floor drain and covered it over with concrete. So now I have no floor drain which was $50 plus labor to install. They also have a couple of piles of debris that are in the driveway. Apparently my problem.....never told. Last garage I had them build, they cleaned up the site. Finally, I was supposed to get a notice of work startage the day before.....never did!!! Only way I knew was that they showed up in my driveway at my house ready to build a garage, when the job site was 60 miles away. The schedular would not accept responsibility. All in all, one hand did not know what the other was doing. Resolution Sought Refund for the floor drain $100

Company Response

11/18/2022

Mr. Bergstedt has not included the accurate details regarding the excavation crew's response to his request to extract a stump that was not included in his contract (he wanted this done as a favor). The stump was large and it was placed 1/2 way down the driveway far from the garage site. A dig ticket locate request clearly indicated (an orange painted line) that the stump was right over a communications line. Mr. Bergstedt first approached the excavation new hire and asked him to take the stump out. The request was transferred to the Excavation Crew Leader who explained that the stump he was asking to have removed was not included in the contract for the job and the bigger problem was that the communications line painted was directly under the stump to be removed (we have pictures if needed). Mr. Bergstedt became quite irrational with the crew leader and her new hire and insisted that the line wasn't used by anyone around the lake so they should just ignore it. When the Crew Leader explained that she would not excavate over a buried line because it is illegal to do so with an excavator and that they were not willing to do this favor by hand, Mr. Bergstedt became quite vulgar. The Crew Leader then asked Mr. Bergstedt if he wanted them to leave (no threat to leave just an offer if he wasn't interested in settling down and letting them doing the job they were hired to do). He responded rudely with "just do your job!" They did and then they left. When the excavation crew returned to the office that day the Leader asked the Production Coordinator to make a note on the contract for the crews that would follow her that Mr. Bergstedt was not a reasonable customer and that they should simply go in, do the job and get out. As for the slab drain, the concrete crew that did the work did so in a very quality and professional manner as they always do. So that you understand, when we set drains into slabs, we cut the drainpipe to height, adhere the drain to the pipe at the proper height (1" below the slab height so the slab can be finished to the drain properly). After they do this, they put duct tape over the drain to prohibit concrete mud from going into the holes. This tape must be removed after the concrete cures. The concrete crew sends pictures of the finished slab to the office before leaving the site for the day. (We also have a picture of the finished slab which shows the tape that is in place). Mr. Bergstedt will see that he does indeed have a beautifully finished drain if he simply pulls the tape up from the drain. We would have explained this to Mr. Bergstedt if he had chosen to call us with his concern. As for the Excavation and Concrete Crews, they have a combined 30 years of work experience in their fields for Economy Garages. They are both experts at what they do and we stand behind them and their workmanship wholeheartedly. No refund is due Mr. Bergstedt as the work was done exactly according to our contract with him.
