On Dec 14, 2023 I went to Emerald Dentistry Practice in Oceanside for a checkup. They said that I needed a lot of work done. Initially they wanted to do a root canal on each of my two upper front teeth. They said that I might die of a heart attack or stroke if I didn't do the work soon. Hmmm. So we set a date for Jan 2, 2024 for that procedure. On the day of the checkup (Dec 14) they wanted $3,841.39 paid upfront out of my pocket… after insurance. Emerald said that the total cost was about 8000 dollars… and that I had good insurance. I paid $3,841.39 even though I had a bad feeling about their request. On Jan 2nd the person who did the canal work was unsuccessful in drilling into my teeth roots. In two hours he couldn't get it done. My teeth and gums are still sore today… January 9th. The bottom line is that I've never been charged for a dental procedure upfront. As of today my insurance company has not received a claim from Emerald. I've done some research… and found that a typical root canal costs between 600 and 1200 dollars. My insurance company… Delta Dental… says that a root canal costs approximately 1200 dollars. I was grossly overcharged… and the pre-payment was unethical… imo. I have requested a refund from Emerald but haven't heard anything from them. I have requested paperwork and a receipt but have not received anything. Resolution Sought Refund 3841.39 dollars.
