Customer Complaint

I bought a brand new Kia Soul 2015 with only 5 miles on it from Kia's Lot. I had all the oil changes and services done on time in Kia's service department at the same location I purchased it from. I had a lot of issues with the vehicle. For example, a piece broke off inside of the Cadillac converter causing the vehicle to lose power suddenly and was so hot in the exhaust system it melted my plastic. I lost power so fast I almost had a collision on the Interstate with a big truck. I told Kia that the vehicle was losing power. It cost me a lot to have the whole exhaust replaced Cadillac converter and all. I then continued to have issues with vehicle losing oil. I reported it losing power again. They did an oil consumption test and said it was okay. This continued the whole time I drove this vehicle. It had a 100 thousand mile warranty. I had around 95 thousand miles or a little less and I complained once more. I was putting oil in it constantly. They did another oil consumption test and said it was losing oil by then it was over the 100 thousand mile warranty. Told me the only way they could look inside the motor is if I paid 230 dollars to take it apart. I did so and they told me I needed to buy a new motor. I fought with Kia and they finally agreed to replace the motor but I had to cover the installation fee. 1200 dollars. The second motor had 36,000 miles on it lost oil again and blew up. Now they only gave me a 10, 000 mile warranty on this refurbished motor. Resolution Sought I would either like for them to give me 100 thousand mile warranty on this refurbished motor so that when it blows up a third time they have to replace it or give me 5,000 Dollars for all the headache of being broke down and running the car back to dealership 45 mins. away every time to get oil consumption tests.

Company Response

We have contacted Kia Motors on the complainant's behalf, and their response is below. Per Kia: The customer needs to contact Consumer Affairs. Nothing can be done by your group and this concern is a Kia related issue. However, she does have the 150k warranty associated with this VIN. So if the failure is related to P12002 the engine will be covered regardless of the 12/12 warranty on parts. Although that looks like it will be sooner than later. I checked for case history and going back to 2020 there is no CA cases. Advise her to contact them and if I need to be involved then I will. Kia Customer Service 1(800)333-4542
