I am writing as a resident of this Kansas City neighborhood to formally lodge a serious complaint about ongoing practices at your store located at 5510 Prospect Avenue (near 55th and Prospect). It is disheartening to address these issues, as our community relies on local businesses like yours to foster safety, fairness, and economic vitality.
I have witnessed and/or experienced the following deeply concerning behaviors: Selective denial of entry or service to customers based on staff's personal feelings or biases, rather than any consistent, equitable policy. The store manager repeatedly using profanity and issuing verbal threats toward patrons, fostering an atmosphere of intimidation and disrespect. Allowing a non-security individual to brandish a firearm inside or around the premises and direct threats against customers, creating an immediate and unacceptable public safety hazard. These actions have caused many residents, myself included, to avoid the store entirely and travel farther outside our neighborhood for everyday purchases. This forces economic leakage from our community, undermines local investment, reduces support for neighborhood jobs, and erodes the sense of belonging and security we all deserve in our own area.
Our community has the right to access convenient, respectful, and safe retail options without fear of discrimination, hostility, or armed intimidation. I urge you to treat this matter with the urgency it requires.
