Mindy had brought her 2012 Nissan Altima to my shop on 1-15-22 with a complaint of a odor coming from inside the vehicle. She said it smelled like bleach but her kids described it as a burning smell. I inspected the air vents, blower motor and cabin air filter for contamination. Upon inspection I discovered the cabin air filter to be original, black in color and full of debris. From my 10+ years of automotive repair I knew this would definitely cause a odor smell inside the vehicle. I proceeded to start the vehicle the morning of 1-16-22 to confirm the odor Mindy had described. The vehicle was a crank no start. I spent the better part of half a hour diagnosing the no start issue which she did not get charged for. I load tested the battery to find it was weak. I put a jump box on the vehicle and it started. I was unable to verify the smell mindy had described but the cabin air filter absolutely needed changed. Before repair I called mindy at approximately 12:30pm on 1-16-22 to go over a verbal estimate for repairs. On the estimate was .5/hr labor($32.50) for a diagnostic charge and load test of the battery, .2/hr ($15.00)for R&R of the cabin air filter and lastly the price of the cabin air filter ($23.00) totaling $70.50. She verbally agreed to the repairs. I also had sent mindy a picture of the cabin filter via Facebook messenger on my business account. I changed the filter brought the vehicle to operating temperature for the heat and confirmed no foul odor. At approximately 2:50pm on 1-16-22 I called mindy to inform her that her vehicle was done and could be picked up at her earliest convenience. Now to address her antifreeze leak concerns. When mindy ,and what I assume to be her mother, came to pick up the vehicle I spent the better part of 10 minutes explaining to both of them the steps I took in repairing her vehicle. I had also addressed the antifreeze ,which was on top of the transmission. I informed her it was residual from a previous repair someone had made and it was nothing to worry about as the vehicle had been test driven and brought to temp several times with no antifreeze smell or any antifreeze left on the shop floor. You may be able to see in her pictures she says she has of coolant hoses above where the antifreeze sets. Those hoses have brand new worm clamps installed. The vehicle comes with spring ( Corbin ) clamps and in order to get the Corbin clamps off you must take tension off the clamp, remove the hose thus releasing the coolant from the cooling system. This was residual antifreeze someone else did not clean up. Someone had just worked on this vehicle prior to me. It had brand new spark plugs a brand new engine air filter and brand new hose clamps. Also brand new front brake pads and rotors and wheel bearings that mindy confirmed her daughters ex boyfriend had just installed. At approximately 12:43pm on 1-17-22 I received a very rude and vulgar Facebook message from mindy explaining how I scammed her and how I'm a " low life piece of s**t." In attempts to reconcile her displeasure I tried to contact mindy with a phone call she ignored it, blocked my business page from messaging her and block my personal Facebook page from messaging her and her daughter proceeded to write a also rude and vulgar review on my Facebook page which I deleted because it was slander. I feel horrible a customer feels as if they got scammed by me but it's just not the case in this matter. I diagnosed a dirty cabin air filter mindy confirmed the repair I did the repair and the vehicle was paid for. If there are any more concerns I have pictures of the conversations on Facebook between mindy and Innes automotive & Performance a picture of the review her daughter left on my business page and a picture of my block list on Facebook to confirm that I was not the one who blocked mindy she blocked me.

Company Final Response

2/4/2022

I feel bad Mindy had a unpleasant experience with my company and my work but had she called me or accepted my call back instead of blocking me or brought her car back I would have gladly helped her in some way reconcile the issue at hand but unfortunately she felt it was best for her and her daughter to degrade me on a social media platform and send me nasty text messages instead of letting me help. I diagnosed a extremely dirty cabin air filter as her problem. There was no smell of anything after I replaced the filter. I charged half an hour labor to do a diagnostic charge and load test on her batter because the vehicle would not start. As stated before she verbally agreed to these repairs before they were done. She got what she paid for and she got free labor for me figuring out the crank no start issue. My questions are why is she not slandering and reporting the person who put wheel bearings, brakes, spark plugs, engine air filter and new hose clamps less that a few days prior for not spotting her RESIDUAL coolant laying on top of the transmission directly under two coolant hoses that had just been taken off recently. I will not refund money for work I did correctly.
