So, I bought a car, I called Kabanis to see how much to fix car problems, I only had the car for 3 days it stopped running so I then on the phone to get a quote Babel from Kabanis quoted me 2000 I gave him 2000 the first day they towed to my car to shop now he saying we owe him another 800 because he paid out of pocket for my car parts and my car was in the shop for a month he never called me to ask me can he pay for the car parts out of his pocket so he trying to get more money out of me he never called me as he was fixing my car he was just buying parts and I already told him I gave him the last of my money so now I can't get my car out the shop until I come up with 800 more dollars. Resolution Sought Give me my car, because I gave them 2000 I want my car back without giving them anymore money they ripping me off.

The customer asked for a quote for her 20 year old vehicle that she knew nothing about, aside from the fact that it broke down and needed the engine replaced. I gave her a quote on engine replacement, but there were several other problems with this car that we had no choice but to repair, otherwise the car would have not been safe or operable. I did keep her informed that we were having issues, but she didn't seem to care or understand what we were dealing with. Once i got the car finished, i gave her the final bill, which is not possible to have before a vehicle is completely finished. (Especially one that had multiple issues that she did not inform us about) The final bill for the engine replacement was actually almost exactly what i quoted her. The other issues were not disclosed by customer at the time she asked for the estimate. Again, we had no choice but to fix them (which i explained to her in full detail) I'm not in the business of taking advantage of people, which is clear when you hear what other people have to say. I truly believe this customer is trying to take advantage of me and get free work. I don't do that to customers, and i will not allow customers to do it to me.

Customer Rebuttal

The man from the shop never called me, they did not keep me informed at all. I had to call the shop all the time to get details on my car. He told me that I had to pay him another $300 for a converter belt and bolts, but never told me the cost of the bolts. And, that was the last I heard from him before I went to pick up my car. When I got there that's when he quoted me higher. He said he bought the parts himself, but never told me beforehand. He overcharged me and wants me to pay a extra $800, He didn't have to buy the parts himself. He wants me to pay him extra money after I've already paid him $2000.00. He never talked to me about buying extra parts before to making the repairs, so I should not have to pay. But, I'm asking if he can bring the price down to at least $2300.00 total. I told the man everything that was wrong with my car and asked him to look at it and he never told me anything, just gave me an estimate of $2000, and never told me about extra charges. I'm hoping he will work with me and I'm willing to pay him additional $300 in addition to the $2000 I have already paid. He NEVER quoted me $800 more before I got there!

Company Final Response

This vehicle came in with a locked up engine. That was the only thing we knew. After discovering the torque converter issue, we informed customer, ordered the part, and installed it. When the car was back together, we noticed the transmission shift solenoid was broken, this would not allow the car to drive safely or properly, we had no choice but to replace it. We got that done, then we tried to start the car, turns out the starter was also bad (caused by repeatedly trying to start engine after engine had seized). We changed the starter, then the car was able to start. We were not aware of these three issues when we quoted this job. These parts work together to make the car run and drive, and we had no choice but to make these repairs. I’m sure the customer would not have accepted a non driving car after spending $2000.
