I rented from KMB Property Management for two years in a row. I lived at 1020 Twixt Town Rd. NE Cedar Rapids, in apartment number 6. I recently moved out in June of 2022. I received a statement saying I needed to pay a final balance that was due for maintenance repairs, which was $52. I stopped by their office in person and paid that final balance with a money order, which they should have proof of. The paper I received stated that I needed to pay that final amount before I would be able to receive my deposit back, which was $495. When I paid that final balance in person, I also wrote down a return address that I needed the deposit sent to in order to ensure it would be sent to the correct place. I waited almost a month and a half after paying that final balance and still did not hear anything from them or receive anything in the mail. I began to call them to ask about it and I still haven't received an answer or a call back. I left a voicemail stating who I was and why I was calling along with a good phone number to call me back at. I then received a text message from that same number stating that I wouldn't be getting my deposit back as they were using it for "unit repairs" even though I was renting from them and had not damaged a single thing in my unit. They still did not return my call as they only texted me, which seems extremely unprofessional. I did nothing to not receive my deposit back and I would like to have something done about it. Resolution Sought I would really appreciate if your business could help me justify receiving my deposit back as I've done nothing in the wrong. I find it very unprofessional that they haven't given me it as well as them not answering my calls to discuss it. I paid my final balance and that's what I needed to do before getting my deposit, so I feel as though they scammed me out of that final payment and my original deposit.

I am writing in response to the complaint filed by Ms. Schoon who was a resident with us at 1020 Twixt Town Road #6. We sent Ms. Schoon a statement of security deposit which stated she had a balance of $52.73 after her security deposit was applied. Ms. Schoon then submitted payment and it was applied to her balance due. Screen shot of the statement sent to BCA for review.
