Company Response

Company states; This is to respond to your correspondence to Ms. George's complaint that "Agents are not applying any of my charity funds toward my account and constangly disconnecting my lights". Lafayette City-Parish Consolidated Government (LCG) through its Utilities Department d/b/a Lafayette Utilities System (LUS) provides electric, water, and wastewater service to Ms. George. Ms. George has repeatedly and extensively fallen behind in paying her utility bills. As a result, in accordance with the LCG Charter and ordinances, and as with other delinquent customers, Ms. George's electric service was disconnected until her account was brought current. Charitable organizations have made four payments on Ms. George's behalf, as she states. LUS credited her account for the full amount of each payment by these charities, contrary to her allegation. At times, these charitable payments brought her account current, but at other times they did not. When the payments were less than the amount she owed, such that she remained delinquent, her electric service was disconnected because she remained delinquent. Ms. George's complaint to you is unjustified, and she is entitled to none of the relief she requests.
