Lakeside Self Storage complaints

I had rented a storage unit for just about 3 years, I paid every month, I had very important belongings in their that included my personal information (ie, soc sec, medical, financial docs) I was planning on closing the unit and was late with my payment. Knowing it was almost too long I sent the company my last $20 knowing I was getting a paycheck the following week to pay off the debt. When I went to payoff the debt I was locked out of my account, I called the office several times, no one answered, I left a message, no one responded or called back, two months later they sent me an email asking me if I still wanted my things, I responded with and email "yes those are very important to me, can I please pay what I owe, so I can collect my belongings" they never responded to my email, I called the woman a few days later and asked her why I am not able to make a payment and that I want to keep my belongings, she told me that my things were awful and smelly and she threw it all in the trash, there is nothing left to collect. I told her that I didn't understand and those things were very important to me. She ridiculed me that I was ill-responsible and wasn't keep up with her? I never got notice that they were throwing my things away. I feel like she was hustling me, I live in another state and it is challenging to get to Florida to collect my items but now I am not sure because she claims she has thrown them away, it's been almost a year and no one answers my messages. Resolution Sought I most ultimately would like to retrieve my belongings, it is very expensive to rent a truck and drive across country to collect my items, there is no dollar amount that could justify a family photo, medical documents, or social security number, but I just feel like I was taken advantage of after 3 years of payments every month. It felt wrong and illegal for her to throw away my items without informing me.
