While installing a new roof they destroyed my recently installed Gutter Helmets(keeps gutters clean) and voided my warrantee. Because they nailed them they cannot be salvaged and I have to have new ones that will cost me $5800.00. They are crooked, bent, scratched and in some places are lifting up the new shingles. They also destroyed the wooden and copper cupola with copper whale weather vane and dented and scratched my regular gutters by leaning ladders up against them. Andrew Diaz, owner, insists he did nothing wrong even though you can see the damage clearly from the ground. Resolution Sought I would like them to take responsibility for the damage done and pay for the repairs necessary caused by them. I feel I was taken advantage of being a 79 year old widow and I trusted him.

Company Response

In my contract with the customer, I stated that the gutter guards were to remain. There was (2) layers of shingles on her roof. The fasteners for the gutter guards were attached through both layers of shingles. To remove the old shingles and install our new roof system the fasteners had to be removed. Once the roof was completed, we re-fastened down the existing gutter guards. They were never removed. Only the fasteners were removed and re-fastened after our new roofing. About a month later, I was contacted by the customer saying that there was a problem with the gutter guards. She had contacted the company who installed the gutter guards originally, to come out to look at them. Their representative said that the customer was not supposed to have anyone else but them touch their gutter guard system. I spoke with this man, and he said that her contract was voided with them because someone else touched their product. He told me that Mrs. Irilli had a contract with their company, that if they were to ever need work done on their home, that the gutter guard company had to come out and remove and re-install the gutter guard system, for their warranty to be valid. I was not made aware of this at all, until 1 month after the roof was completed. He said their warranty was voided because we touched their product, and it was not re-fastened to their specifications. I explained that my workers were not trained or qualified to re-install their product. Mrs. Irilli she should have payed to hire their services to remove and reinstall their system when she knew she was having our company do her roof. This contract and information were never made known to me throughout the process of me doing her roof. Had Mrs. Irilli told me this, I would have waited until they were removed before I did the roof. Because this information was never explained to me, I feel we are not liable for her contract between herself and the gutter guard company. Also, on the note of us taking advantage of a widow, that is simply just not true. Our company was recommended to her by a lifelong family friend of hers, who is also in the construction business and knew of our company. She was also recommended by her neighbor (also a widow), two houses down that we had just done her roof this year and was extremely happy with our services.
