I had a man (about 20, dressed in navy blue shirt, ochre colored pants, thin, about 5'10", reddish blond hair beard and mustache, blue eyes) come to the door and identified himself as a Semco Energy employee. He said that the rate they were charging (.29cfm) was wrong, and that it should be .19cfm, and that signing the paper would correct the error, and that I would see a change in my rate very soon. He failed to sign the paperwork, and insisted that he worked for Semco. I read the paper, and found that it was an attempt to switch me over to Michigan Natural Gas. I called the police to inform them that someone is going through the neighborhood misrepresenting himself so that he would not take advantage of anyone else. I did call the number: 8889886424 to cancel the contract in less than one week, and was given a confirmation number of 870834. The lady stated that they would open an agent complaint, and I asked them to call me with results. I am infuriated by the con man that this company hired, and probably encourages. They prey on older people who would be home during the day. I need to know that something can be done against this company and their agents. Resolution Sought I would like the business to stop sending people out into neighborhoods misrepresenting themselves and lying for profit. I would like to see this company censored.

The customer’s account was enrolled with Michigan Natural Gas on August 3, 2021 after speaking with an in-person sales representative. A welcome letter and terms and conditions of the contract were mailed to the customer after enrollment. On August 6, 2021, a quality control call was placed to the customer to confirm the customer was satisfied with the sales experience. On this call, the MNG toll-free number is given so the customer may call back with any questions or concerns. On August 11, 2021, the customer contacted Michigan Natural Gas Customer Service to request a cancellation on the account. The customer states that the sales representative wore a vest, however the customer was unable to recall the branding on the vest. The customer recalled the representative showing a Michigan Natural Gas ID badge. We apologized for any inconvenience and assured the customer that Michigan Natural Gas Customer Service would be placing a complaint on her behalf. The cancellation was confirmed with Semco on August 11, 2021. In regard to the customer’s allegations pertaining to the agent misrepresenting themselves, agents marketing on behalf of Michigan Natural Gas wear an approved uniform, including a Michigan Natural Gas face mask, a Michigan Natural Gas vest and a badge that clearly states the agent works for Michigan Natural Gas. Additionally, the contract signed by the customer includes the Michigan Natural Gas name and logo in increased font size at the very top of the contract and is signed by the customer stating that the customer understands that he is switching his account to Michigan Natural Gas. Michigan Natural Gas takes all compliance issues seriously and will continue to monitor our sales and customer service teams to ensure our high-quality standards are being met.
