The vehicle was in need of a complete transmission rebuild and would not have exceeded the initial estimate had the transmission cooler lines not been leaking and motor mounts not been rotted out, which the customer gave authorization for replacement. The vehicle was driven twice after completion and the transmission was signed off on. Later we received a call from the customer saying all the fluid had leaked out and the vehicle was stuck on the side of the road. The customer was made aware we would tow it in free of charge if it was the transmission at fault. After receiving the vehicle and immediately checking it out, it was evident the leaking fluid was not transmission fluid, but engine oil coming from a giant hole in the front of the engine. It was noted the vehicle had a long-term engine oil leak by the caked on engine oil on bottom of the engine. The hole was caused by a connecting rod breaking through the front of the engine from neglect, nothing to do with the transmission or labor performed at Multistate Milex of Chicago Heights. As so, the customer was made aware she would be responsible for the tow and also had us tow it to a facility that works on engines, since we do not.
