Wish I had had read reviews first.
My loan was passed to Newrez after Ditech failed. I received an email regarding refinancing my 4.75 percent loan , also a phone call from one of their agents. Proceeded to supplying requested documentation during phone call yesterday to agent, who seemed very pleasant to work with. He said it appeared that he would be able to get a refinanced 15 year loan at 2.5 percent, which sounded great to me. I signed all documentation electronically during the phone call. He said the only up front cost would be $83.00 for the appraisal and I supplied debit card information for that charge. Conversation ended on a very positive note. This morning when checking my bank account online, I was surprised to see a charge for $600.00. I called my bank to see what it was for and was told it had to do with an appraisal. I tried to contact the agent regarding the charge through email as well as several phone calls. All phone calls went to agent's voice mail. The strange thing is that all of the phone numbers I had for Newrez as well as the number on their web site went only to the his voicemail. I began to think I had been scammed somehow and disputed the charge with my bank. The bank also blocked the card and they are issuing a new card, a major pain. After many phone calls I was able to go through LoanCare, which services my loan to Newrez, to be transferred to the refinance department of Newrez, which by then I wondered if it existed. I was able to speak with one of the agent's who gave me the manager's name and phone number. I reached his voicemail which promised to return phone calls by day's end. I have not heard from the agent who took my application nor the manager. The $600.00 appraisal fee would not have been a deal breaker had I known about it up front, but at this point I don't know what is going to happen. It's always a bad sign when you get no response from a company.

Seven months now and still no refinancing with no closing date in sight.
If you're looking for a reputable mortgage company please keep looking. NewRez offers "smooth refinancing" that they haven't been able to deliver on in seven months. Wish I had read the internet reviews before I tried to refinance my home. I'm totally disgruntled and looking for another mortgage lender.
