I purchased 20 white lilac seeds from esty seeds. I got a business card with an email for 10 off my next order. No instructions no directions. I have been trying to contact these people for months. Finally I got a reply. I asked for a refund. They wanted to know how I planted the seeds. I told them I had to Google for instructions since they sent none. I put 5 containers out on my carport with 2 seeds each and 5 containers in my sunroom 2 seeds each. This is August. Nothing came up. Nothing produced. I want my money back. They tried to tell me I was doing it wrong. They also tried to tell me they sent a label saying I needed to put them in the cold first then plant in fall. There was no label. No label no instructions no directions. Just a business card and 20 worthless seeds. They pretty much called me a list and said sorry. I want my money back. I have 20 worthless seeds. And a business card. Wow what am I to do with those. Resolution Sought Have them acknowledge their mistake and refund my money.

Company Response

Hello. I am sorry to hear that you had a difficult time getting in touch with us initially. Should you need it, our direct email address is customerservice@seedvilleusa.com. I see you were able to reach us through the "Contact Seller" link on Etsy where we did promptly reply to all of your messages. Every pack of seeds we send out has a label on the seed pack itself with a photo of the plant, the common & botanical name, the seed quantity, the plants stats such as height & spacing, lighting & water needs, hardiness zone, etc, & the planting instructions. The instructions printed on the White Lilac seed pack say "Fall sow the seeds 1/4" deep or cold stratify for 90 days prior to sowing at 70F". (I'd be glad to send an image of this, but cannot add an attachment here.) Our listing for these seeds that the order was placed through does also say that the seeds are to be fall sown or cold stratified. If one googles "How to sow Syringa pekinensis seeds", the search results do all say that the seeds need to be fall sown or cold stratified. The reason that the seeds have not germinated yet is because they were not cold stratified. This step is completely necessary in order for the seeds to break dormancy & be able to sprout. This can be done now, & the seeds should still sprout when they are returned to the warm temperatures at the end of the cold treatment. You will want to place the seeds in the refrigerator in their moist medium with a cover over the top to trap the moisture in. (Plastic wrap works great for this, or you tie them inside a plastic grocery store bag.) Leave them in the fridge like this for 90 days, occasionally checking to be sure the soil is still moist. At the end of the 90 days, remove them from the fridge & place them someplace that is 70F. Germination should occur within 14-45 days of being moved to the warm temps. Alternately, you can leave the seeds outdoors in their pots over the winter to go through the cold treatment naturally, & the seeds should sprout in the spring when the temps begin to warm. I do hope this helps. Because you should still be able to successfully grow the seeds you purchased as well as the other reasons listed above, we do not feel a refund is merited for this order. Because you purchased through Etsy, you have the option of opening a case on Etsy if you are not satisfied with our decision. Their mediation team will review the situation & make a determination as to whether or not they feel a refund is warranted & will issue the refund if they decide in your favor. Thank you. I want a refund. Those seeds were worthless. I was scammed. There was NO label with instructions or directions. They are liars or someone did not do their job. Those seeds were worthless.

Company Final Response

I am positive that the seeds were labeled & that the label included instructions. All of our seeds are packaged ahead of time. The premade packs are stored in alphabetical order by the name on the pack's label for our shipping department who just pulls them & puts them in mailing envelope. They are not making or labeling the packs at the time of shipping, so this is not something they could have overlooked. There is nothing wrong with the seeds, they simply need to be cold stratified to be able to germinate. As I explained, you can do this now & you should still get results from the seeds. If you wish to receive a refund for this order, you need to please open a case on Etsy where the purchase was made. Thank you. - Heather
