Customer Complaint

For the 7 years that I've been here I've always had the problem that the light fixtures in front of my unit go out. The light bulbs burn out and every time it happens I've been told by management to just go up and make a verbal request for it to be fixed which I have been doing. On December 12th I made the request again but this time instead of the usual attendant named Doug at the office this time Janet the manager was there she received my request with a very rude snarky response that will get to it when we can interrupting me before I even finished my request she knew what I was requesting because my request was made many times before so I responded to her with what it's going to take for them to actually change the balance and not just the light bulb because obviously the light bulbs are not the problem they keep going out she responded with more snarkyism and told me to call corporate office if she doesn't like the way I'm being taken care of as a paying customer. As a result of my request she has now decided to claim that I verbally assaulted her and wants to terminate my lease this is a big inconvenience for me. All I did was request a repair and now I'm being evicted because of my request I made a complaint about this before years ago with the BBB and it obviously hasn't been fixed now I'm being evicted and threatened with legal action. She's threatening to have me arrested for trespassing. please help me as I'm being harassed. Resolution Sought I would like for them to be made to honor their obligation to their paying customers. I would like to stay there until I decide to move. I would like for this woman Janet to be forced to take some kind of anger management class because she obviously doesn't know how to deal with unsatisfied customers that make proper respectable requests. Since this is not the first time she's harassed me I would also like a written apology.

Company Response

My name is Janet Escobar, and I work in the management team for Storage Depot located at 9919 Canoga Ave, Chatsworth, CA 91311. I am responding to the complaint made by Mr. Duarte. He started renting with us on 09/07/2017, Unit 174; he has kept this unit ever since. On April 13, 2021, a notice was given for parking in the emergency parking space and staying excessive hours. That became a habit for him, being parked in the same spot every day for hours drinking and smoking marijuana most of the time. Jose, the front office manager, reported the situation to our department after many calls of attention to Mr. Duarte. The front office manager was afraid to tell Mr. Duarte he couldn't stay in the facility's fire department parking space no more because Mr. Duarte always responded by threatening him about hurting him. After the notice was posted on his storage door on April 13th, 2021, Mr. Duarte wasn't happy with our front office staff, who would find any opportunity to make a complaint or argue with our staff members. On December 9th, at around 5:45 pm, the front office was already closed. Mr. Duarte came into our front office screaming at me due to a light bulb that was burned out in the hallway of his unit. I was covering up for Jose (Office Manager), who was out on vacation. I did not know a light bulb wasn't working; Mr. Duarte made a big deal about us knowing, using foul words and disrespecting me, and that a customer was inside the office filling out a contract in front of me. Mr. Duarte's body language said everything. He was shaking and calling me names. I responded to him as professionally as I was able to. The customer stepped into the conversation and called out on him. Thank God she was in with me to defend me from Mr. Duarte, and he walked out of the office calling me names (foul words) and threatening me. After that situation, I understood exactly what our other staff members were dealing with and why they felt scared of Mr. Duarte's behavior. That is why our corporate office sent him a notice to vacate and didn't take a December monthly rent. (I issued BCA a copy of the warning and notice to move.) Our facility staff and management do not feel safe having a tenant/customer like him, even if he is a paying customer; he has no right to treat nobody the way he did and has no right to make others feel scared. I have a witness, and we have cameras inside the office. We got to an agreement with him, giving him until January 23rd to move out via text messages, which he agreed to, and he came to our office as requested to sign the agreement to proceed.
