I am a senior citizen of 83 years. I live alone and my water bill is usually around $40/mo. I got a bill from MDC for 1300 and I called to report the error and they said, no error. We flagged the account, you must have a leak somewhere. As it turned out apparently the gentlemen who were servicing my furnace used the toilet in the basement (which I never use) and in flushing the water kept running. I rarely go down the basement. I went down to do laundry a couple weeks later (I don't really remember exactly how long it was) and discovered the toilet running. I jerryrigged a fix. One of the women I spoke to at MDC suggested I apply to agency to help pay, but I don't think I should be held responsible. If they had flagged the account and saw the discrepancy they should have called me and alerted me. I live on Social Security and cannot afford to pay this bill. I sent in copies of my Social Security benefits and two small payments I get in addition which they requested. I heard from one agency that I contacted (CRT) and they said, sorry, we have no money. I applied to the MDC as well. They said they would reduce it by 30 but I have not heard from them. This all happened in November. The people I have spoken to subsequently have been very rude. I really need help in dealing with this. Resolution Sought Removal of charge or significant adjustment.
