After 18 days of new service (02/17/22-03/07/22), URECC billed me for 1105 total kWh at a cost of $177.45 and a previous balance of $180.21 for zero kWh. The bill didn't show a beginning reading for the alleged 1105 kWh of usage; it only showed an ending reading of 1105 and in their minds, that meant I used 1105 of energy. Of course, I called to inquire, but the representatives & supervisor did not have answers. I request a corrected bill and proof of the previous bill that shows as "past due" although I had just recently moved in. I never received a corrected bill. I only received a demand for $357.66 due by March 28, 2022, $364.83 due after March 28, 2022 or face disconnection on April 12, 2022 with the theft of my $255 deposit. I have sought the assistance of the Attorney General and am preparing to file a lawsuit. This is a clear case of deceptive business practices, which is criminal (stealing) and unethical (morally corrupt) behavior. In Hallsville, URECC is the only power supplier, but I'm not going to pay a fraudulent balance simply because URECC threats me with disconnection. The reading on my meter isn't even close to what they have claimed. I have photographic evidence dating back to when I received the bill in question. This situation is causing me undue stress. URECC is being dismissive & unreasonable. Lastly, customers should not be forced to submit a copy of our driver's licenses via email or text. This is an unsafe business practice that leaves us vulnerable. Resolution Sought I demand a copy of a corrected bill that details actual usage during my tenancy. My power should not be disconnected while this matter is being resolved nor should my $255 deposit be applied to the inaccurate balance. I demand a complete explanation of where they are getting these astronomical numbers. I've taken pictures of the meter and the actual total kWh is drastically lower than what URECC is claiming. This is criminal!!! I understand the law and know my rights as a consumer. I will sue.
