Homeowner contracted USA on June 24th to fill exterior walls with foam insulation and blow attic with loose fiberglass up to R49 (18 inches total). Current special for summer is free attic installation with purchase of complete house walls which homeowner took advantage of. Install crew arrived to do install on July 1st. Crew split baffles in half along perforations and installed in attic as well as measuring markers. Homeowner had some very light cellulose already in attic (roughly 2 inches). Crew installed an additional 16 inches of loose fiberglass to bring it up to sold 18 inches. Crew removed exterior siding and drilled thru exterior sheathing to gain access into house cavities. Exterior sheathing was unusually thick. Because of the thickness of the exterior hose will not bend into cavity completely. Although extremely rare this does happen in some older homes. Homeowner drilled holes on the interior walls to inspect for foam. Some areas did not have foam present. We offered to drill more holes higher on the exterior to fill or from the interior where the wall would be less thick. Homeowner refused both options (See attached contract about areas unable to fill from exterior). We offered to FLIR (Thermal Image) the walls to find the voids in insulation (homeowner refused). We closed up the holes and reinstalled the vinyl siding as well as cleaned the exterior. Sales rep told homeowner we would get in contact to figure out a solution. Office and sales rep called homeowner on July 6th as we were closed for the holiday weekend. Crew came back out on the 8th to address any concerns of the homeowner as well as see if we could drill exterior or interior holes at the top to fill. Homeowner refused any other holes being drilled to fill. We double checked baffles and fixed any that were a concern. Added more blown in insulation to the attic above purchased value. We also removed exterior soffits to guarantee they were not clogged of air flow. USA offered instead of enforcing contract as we were unable to completely fill wall cavities to charge only for the attic portion of the job and forgive any work that was done in regards to the wall cavities and foam installed there. Homeowner had paid $2,000 down. Attic installation would have cost $2,640 at adding a value of R30 (12 inches). USA offered to accept the $2,000 down payment as paid in full and forgive all other work done. Homeowner refused that offer (Offer fwd to BCA for review).
