Tax matters can be complicated, and we are equipped to handle a wide variety of them. However, the taxpayer must take steps to meet certain requirements—those provided by his or her representation and the taxing authorities—to achieve meaningful results. If these actions are not taken, no tax representative, no matter the skill level, can have any chance at a successful resolution. This is what we explained to this person almost a decade ago when our business relationship with her ended. We are saddened to hear that she may still face tax difficulties. We wish her luck in addressing them. Compensation is not appropriate in this case, but we would be more than happy to evaluate a reopening of her case with reasonable fees if she would like to discuss doing so.

We welcome feedback of all types, even criticism that is not overly constructive. We are not a perfect company and strive for continuous improvement, which is why we need to hear from our clients. We may even be willing to consider reactivating this reviewer as a client again, despite the harsh nature of his review, though we do not expect him to take us up on the offer to discuss this. But for feedback to be helpful to others—those who read and weigh the words of the review—the details must be accurate and not misleading. For anyone who has ever dealt with a serious tax matter, it should be obvious that this review doesn't line up with the reality of what this process entails, for one obvious reason: serious tax matters generally don't get resolved in a few months. Taxing authorities often take considerable amounts of time to process paperwork, schedule meetings/hearings, even respond to requests. For that reason alone, one should be skeptical of using this information to formulate any sort of judgment. In addition, this case was substantially more complicated than the reviewer is letting on. At the point when the reviewer stopped paying for service (and thus ended representation), there were still important documents and information that he had yet to provide to his team. The absence of these answers and evidence all but guaranteed that no meaningful resolution could have even been attempted by that point, let alone fully completed. Put simply, no representative in the country, given the same incomplete business and financial picture, could have done any better in that amount of time. It is our right as consumers—and is often appropriate—to critique and even make strong accusations when we feel we have been treated badly or have been provided a low-quality service. This helps others make more informed decisions and helps jump-start market corrections when necessary. But this review does none of that for you as the potential consumer. There is nothing to learn from someone who never even gave his representatives a fair chance to help him.
