I'm reaching out today to file a complaint against Welk Resorts (known as Hyatt Vacation Club) for mishandling my timeshare cancellation request. Despite having valid reasons, the company's management and various departments' consumer advocate have all ignored my reported issues. They only reply with generic responses, showing no intention to investigate my concerns or address my claims about their salespeople. I've been loyal to Welk Resorts for years, but they don't value their customers. Despite my efforts, they keep taking my payments without addressing my concerns. I've asked the California attorney general to investigate to help ensure justice is served if they are able to step in. Welk was sued by the CA Attorney General before for similar issues recently. My most recent conversation with Hutch Farrell, Director/ Consumer Advocate for Hyatt, was fruitless. He informed me that I needed to queue for the exit and that they follow their list in order. Then, they proceed with their process. He sent an email later confirming we were on the list since as of 10-22-2022 when we had previously asked about exiting. I emphasized that we're paying a lot on a quarterly plan but unable to travel and use the points. I even suggested halting the payments during the waiting period, to which he had no response except acknowledging that our payments are up to date. This allows them time to facilitate our exit process until next year when the 2025 maintenance fees become due once again. Resolution Sought Their company's greed is evident as they continue to profit by renting out our ownership while delaying the process and collecting our annual dues in the meantime. This feels as if it violates certain laws. Hutch also mentioned the pressure from his boss, who advised him not to be a cowboy. Perhaps a reference to standing up-and-doing the right thing. We just want out without it dragging on. The delay feels intentional since we were told the fees would have to be paid on our end despite it all.

Our family's journey with Welk Resorts began with promise and excitement. With four young children, the appeal of spacious accommodations over traditional hotel offerings was undeniable. Enticed by the prospect of better vacation experiences, we attended a timeshare presentation that seemed to offer just that. The salesperson's persuasive presentation painted a picture of easy exchanges and access to prime resorts as effortless. Regrettably, our reality has been starkly different. Attempting to book vacations around two demanding careers, school schedules for four children, and later, care responsibilities for an elderly parent, quickly unveiled the impracticality of the supposed flexibility of our timeshare. The availability of desirable resorts always seemed just out of reach, requiring a degree of schedule flexibility we simply did not possess. Our need for the spacious accommodations that initially attracted us to Welk Resorts no longer exists, and our ability to travel remains severely limited. On the rare occasions we find an opportunity for travel, the options available for exchange are disappointingly limited, with all the more appealing facilities constantly booked. Compounding our disillusionment is the lack of responsiveness from Welk Resorts. Multiple attempts to reach out for assistance, to discuss our situation and to find a pathway to end our timeshare agreement have been met with silence. This solidifies our decision to end this agreement with Welk Resorts. Resolution Sought We want this company to respond to our communication and inform us of how to cancel our timeshare agreement.
