The Better Business Bureau evaluates charities based on 20 voluntary standards for charitable solicitations. These standards include, in part, a willingness to disclose financial information, adherence to specified guidelines for use of funds and fundraising, including using at least 65% of its total expenses on program activities, a policy of truth in solicitations and information materials, and governance by an active, impartial governing body. The Bureau believes that by adherence to these standards promotes ethical practices on the part of the soliciting organization and instills public confidence in the organization.The BBB Wise Giving Alliance provides reports on National Charities.
