Comments and Analysis

On August 11, 2000, our office received a letter from BankFirst indicating they are not affiliated with Direct Financial in anyway despite the company listing them as a potential creditor in their package. BankFirst has not authorized this company to use its name and cannot guarantee an account as this company leads customer's to believe. On May 3, 2000, mail sent to the company by the Bureau was returned by the Post Office marked, "moved, left no forwarding". Although the Bureau was able to verify that the telephones are not disconnected, the company will not respond to numerous messages left by Bureau personnel. As with the Any third party advertising the availability of credit cards it is required by law to register with the California Attorney General and post a $100,000 bond. Even if registered and bonded, it is unlawful to collect fees before services are performed. Offers of secured credit cards require a deposit in a savings account with the credit card issuer. This deposit is collateral for your line of credit or credit limit. In the case of unsecured credit cards, if you would not qualify for a credit card with your local bank, chances are a third party will not be able to help.
