When selecting a contractor, always verify licensing by calling the Contractors Board at (800) 321-CSLB or visit their website at www.cslb.ca.gov. California State law, allows three days to cancel contracts totaling $25 or more, for a full refund, until midnight of the third business day after the sale. The Cooling-Off Rule applies to sales finalized at the buyer's home, workplace, or at a temporary location. By law, the seller must advise the buyer of the three day recision period, and provide two copies of a cancellation form (one to keep, and one to send to the seller), along with a copy of your contract or receipt. The contract or receipt, must be in the same language used in the sales presentation, dated, show the name and address of the seller, and explain cancellation procedures. Contractors should not commence work until the recision period has passed. Send cancellations by certified mail, return receipt requested so that you have proof that you notified them within the three day period.
