Complaint Resolution Index (CRI) Explained The Complaint Resolution Index (CRI) is an indicator on how responsive a company is in addressing and resolving customer complaints brought to their attention by BCA. If they are considering doing business with the company, consumers can use this indicator to forecast the likelihood of having their issues addressed if a problem arises. CRI measures the company's customer satisfaction abilities through BCA’s complaint mediation process.

A variety of factors are considered when calculating CRI. This includes how quickly a company responds to complaints, the number of complaints against a company, whether the company addressed complaint allegations, and the outcome of the complaints. CRI is just a subset of the overall rating for the company. Consumers are encouraged to take into consideration the company's CRI, their overall BCA letter rating and other relevant information about the company so they can make a well-informed purchasing decision.

BCA's Summary and Analysis:

Complainants report the company charges $100 for an agent fee, and $21 for a credit report fee and the company offers false leads for apartments and rental homes. Also, in some cases more credit report fees were paid when applying for a rental. The company responds to a few complaints by asking the customer to select another agent since their agent is on maternity leave, or by stating the client needs to look at other condos on the updates. The company states they have new print-outs every 72 hours. All other complaints remain unanswered.

California law requires anyone conducting a prepaid rental listing services to be licensed by the Bureau of Real Estate with a Prepaid Rental Listing Service (PRLS). A real estate broker’s license will also satisfy this requirement. Anyone licensed to conduct such business, unless licensed as a real estate broker, must also maintain a bond in the amount of $10,000 for each location. Comments and Analysis

Companies offering rental lists, either as prepaid rental services or as credit reporting services providing free lists, must be licensed by the State Department of Real Estate and maintain a $2,500 bond for each of its locations. As of August 20, 2002, we were unable to locate a license for this company. To verify licensing call, (213) 620-2072. In our experience, listed properties were taken directly from area newspapers, were already rented, did not exist, or failed to meet the customer's specifications. Many were listed without the knowledge and consent of landlords. In all cases, refunds were difficult to obtain in spite of promises to the contrary.
