Companies providing moving services within the state (intrastate) are required to obtain a moving license through the Public Utilities Commission. To verify licensing or to file a complaint customers may contact the Public Utilities Commission located at 505 Van Ness Avenue, San Francisco, CA, 94102, or call (415) 703-2036. We suggest that consumers insist on a written binding estimate in advance of the move. Be certain that the estimate is very specific concerning the goods to be shipped. It is advisable to purchase additional insurance for lost or damaged goods since the statutory liability is only .60 cents per pound.
